Daniel Ruckstuhl
Daniel Ruckstuhl is a designer furniture maker who takes inspiration mainly from nature’s elements, human qualities and the Alchemy, giving attention to the surrounding magic and trying to translate it into a piece of furniture. In the making process he recurrently uses fire to scorch details, water to bend the wood, and colour with mixed media techniques to enhance the furniture. Some of Ruckstuhl’s furniture was made in collaboration with the client and artists who share the story behind the design. |
Born in Strasbourg, France, Ruckstuhl was always interested by this“bridge” between the mind and the hand. A self-taught craftsman, Ruckstuhl changed from a career in sport and fitness to cabinet making, obtaining a degree in Mastercraft from Chambre des Métiers d'Alsace, Strasbourg.
He was an active member of FREEMA (Federation of artistic trades of Alsace) and has participated in several European exhibitions.
Ruckstuhl participated in a project initiated by the CEEAC (European Centre for the Contemporary Artistic Actions) in the form of the making of a Memorial in the Vosges mountains. Titled ‘Windbreaker’, the monument adorns part of the ‘route de l'art contemporain’, along with over 30 other monumental works of art scattered throughout the territory.
He has also worked in collaboration with local colleges and provided tuition to cabinet maker apprentices in his workshop.
Ruckstuhl lives and works in Eastbourne, often finding inspiration within the stunning nature of East Sussex.
