Creativity has always been integral in my life, whether painting, writing, taking photographs or simply the way that I see the world. Studying for a degree in Fine Art was a natural choice and the very conceptual based slant of the course allowed me the freedom to explore images and ideas through whichever medium suited the particular concept I was working on. I continue to work across a variety of media including acrylic, spray paints, photography, pastels, ink, pen, and collage. The finished works reflect this diversity, as well as the wide range of influences from geometric abstraction, abstract expressionism, pop art and graffiti through to conceptual art, poetry and literature. My process begins with a thought, a feeling, a momentary fleeting image or line of prose, incorporating humour, pain, and love, in an attempt to capture my peculiar perspective of the world; the dark splendour of the mundane, the imperfections of life and ultimately the beauty of small things. Abi Myers has a BA Fine Art from Portsmouth University. |
