A new exhibition opens at Art Under Ground this week. The gallery, which is located in the foyer of The Under Ground Theatre will host a solo exhibition of mixed media work by Worthing artist Emma Bennett.

Utilising fragments of found objects layered with paint she manifests the beauty of ephemera, only allowing glimpses of what they were and suggestions of a new life. Hints of shape and form lead the viewer to form their own conclusions.

Open Fridays and Saturdays 10- 4 or when the theatre is open for other events.
1st to 30th April.

An exciting proposal has been submitted to Eastbourne Council to create a creative hub in the Seaside Road area of Eastbourne. The Devonshire Collective would provide artists studios and workshops and a gallery and cafe. It would also involve the Hippodrome Theare and Leaf Hall as collaborative partners, as well as having links to Towner Gallery.

There are only a few days left to view this captivating exhibition at Phoenix Gallery, Brighton. The New Immortals is curated by Eastbourne artist and Blue Monkey member, Judith Alder and features work from Alder and nine other artists, all exploring ideas around immortality and scientific advances in the prolonging of life.

‘Could indefinite human life become a reality? Would we really want to live forever? and What difference would it make if we never died?’

Through installations, film, photography, sound and print, the exhibition draws one in with careful scene setting, invites us to be 'De Conditioned' from our established notions, presents science fact and the theoretical fringes, and takes us to possible futures through our own imaginings.

Deeply intriguing and at times disturbing, but with moments of humour and beauty this is that incredible form of art which encourages and enables an engagement with some of the most difficult subject matter facing society today; calling us to question our own beliefs and moralities.

Open until Sun 20th March at Phoenix Gallery Brighton, 11am -5pm.
